Pasar Malam is the exclusive closing ceremony for Multicultural Week (MCW). The word ‘Pasar Malam’ means night market in the Malaysian and Indonesian languages. The Pasar Malam event, together with MCW was first organised in 2001. Ever since, it has attracted thousands of visitors from within and outside of Curtin University. Until last year, Pasar Malam itself has proudly attracted over 50,000 visitors.
Boasting more than 30 stalls each year, there are assorted delicious foods from countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Turkey, Europe and Australia! A variety of signature foods, all of which are very popular in their origin country are available at the stalls highlighting the unique tastes and cuisines of various cultures.
Pasar Malam also hosts a series of attractive performances from different cultures. Each of the performances boasts its own uniqueness and charm to keep you entertained throughout the night. The performances include Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, Salsa Dancing, Belly Dancing, a Live Band, Singing, Didgeridoo, Capoeira, African Drumming, Freo Samba, Sokudo demonstration, and much more. The performance list continues to expand and change each year to preserve the diversity of the performances on the night as one of the signatures for Pasar Malam.
